Starting my life over wasn't merely about bouncing back; it was about rewriting my own story. The experiences drawn from the process taught me the importance of resilience, self-belief and the transformative power of embracing change.

In 2007, the decision to file for divorce marked a profound and necessary turning point in my life. After 12 years in an unhealthy marriage, the emotional toll had reached a breaking point, compelling me to step into the challenging journey of rebuilding my life.

 

Leaving behind a tumultuous marriage was not only an escape from a toxic relationship but a pivotal moment that propelled me into the daunting territory of single motherhood with two young children, Mitchel and Natalie. The decision, while liberating, came with its unique set of challenges—financial instability, societal stigma and the emotional well-being of my children hanging in the balance.

 

One of the initial hurdles on this journey was the necessity of filing for bankruptcy. Having left my pharmaceutical job and cashed in my 401(k), I faced the harsh reality of starting over from scratch. The societal stigma associated with bankruptcy could have been paralyzing, but I made a conscious decision to view it as a temporary setback rather than a permanent label.

 

Embracing the role of an independent woman, I picked up multiple jobs to sustain my family. Financial stability became an elusive goal, but the determination to provide for my children fueled my resilience. This period was not just a struggle for financial survival but a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

 

Amidst the challenges, I found strength in setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care. I was able to reclaim my sense of self-worth. Therapy became a crucial tool in navigating the emotional aftermath, allowing me to give myself permission to prioritize my well-being. When I am in a healthy, positive mindset, I can be the best mother to my children.

 

Another turning point in this transformative journey arrived when I decided to focus on building a new career in real estate. Encouraged by a neighbor who recognized my innate sales abilities, I took a leap into the industry. Growing up with grandparents who owned a resort, my work ethic was clearly defined. Those experiences, coupled with the empathy I developed through my personal journey, gave me the framework to start my real estate career on the right foot.

 

I’ve always viewed real estate transactions as more than buying or selling property; they are significant life events for my clients. I see myself as a calming presence, guiding clients through the process with the belief that everything is figure-out-able.

 

As I helped people through real estate, it became a vehicle for financial stability and personal empowerment. My financial struggles began to dissipate, and I found myself on a path of reinvention. For the first time in a long time, I could buy basic things without worrying how much money I had left. I never take what I do for granted, knowing it has changed my life in many ways.

 

Through the hardships and triumphs, I emerged not only as a survivor but as a person who had reclaimed control over my future. Starting my group, MI Properties North, in 2021 was yet another milestone on my journey. There truly is no limit to what you can achieve in life; you simply need the work ethic and determination to succeed. In embracing change and rewriting my story, I discovered a resilience and strength within myself that I never knew existed.

 

In my free time, I love being with my husband, Scott, our daughter, Adriana, and our adult children. We love to travel and go to live music events. They have been my rock and my ultimate source of motivation throughout this journey of healing and self-discovery.

 

Breaking the cycle of generational struggles is a theme that resonates with me, and I am proud to have created a different path for my own family. Now, it is a passion of mine to help others build generational wealth through homeownership.
